Last year we were delighted that so many of our subscribers got involved with the charity we were supporting, From Me To You. This year we’ll be fundraising for Allsorts, a Gloucestershire based charity which supports children with special needs and their families, by making a donation for every stationery box we sell.
A major problem for families with disabled children is social isolation so Allsorts runs a mix of free and paid activities and groups because they believe that everyone in our community should have the opportunity to forge new friendships, try new things and have fun as a result.
Allsorts was formed 10 years ago by a group of parents and they initially helped 40 families. Since then the charity has grown:
1200 family members
200 participants in their sports activities
120 children and young people attend their youth clubs
300 people have been on family trips in the last 12 months
150 children and young people took part in a new activity outside of Allsorts thanks to the confidence they had gained through their activities last year
Allsorts staff are trained in a range of specialist care skills and the charity employs the siblings of disabled children, and the centre includes a music room, sensory room and a toy library. We’re looking forward to getting to know the staff and participating in some of their events. Watch this blog for updates!
